Welcome to the US I-420 Class Association
The United States International 420 Class Association is dedicated to the support, development and growth of International 420 Class and its Sailor Members in the United States and throughout North America. Since 2000, the re-emergence in the US of this once very active class has sought to provide opportunities to young, advancing sailors that wanted to compete at the higher levels of international, double-handed sailing. The international 420 dinghy is a very active and competitive class with thousands of boats worldwide that was the perfect platform in which to compete. Inspired by the vision of the California International Sailing Association (CISA), a small group of supporters began testing the international waters with a few teams. Over the years a few teams at a World Championship event has turned into much broader participation by sailors all across the country, with the participation currently at over 50 sailors sailing in more than 5 countries at National, Junior and World Championship competitions. The primary goal of the US I-420 CA is to advance the sailing opportunities and skills of motivated young sailors through proper education, training, guidance and support to achieve success at the highest levels of international and national competition.
The International 420 Class Dinghy is a mono hull planing dinghy with trapeze for the crew, centerboard, a tapered and tunable Bermuda rig and center sheeting. It carries a main, jib and spinnaker and is designed for a crew of two. The name describes the overall length of the boat in centimeters (the boat is exactly 4.2 meters long).
